Obituary of Samuel Giansante

Samuel F. "Salvatore" Giansante

Samuel F "Salvatore Giansante, 93, of 4530 Ransom Road Apt. 119 in Clarence died Thursday, Aug. 16, 2018 at Brothers of Mercy Nursing & Rehabilitation Center of Clarence.

His early education was at St. Mary's School in Waterloo, N.Y. He received his Bachelor's and Master's degree in education from the American International College of Springfield, Mass. in 1950.

He worked in the Elba School District for 37 years. Starting out his career as a teacher, then a principal and finished his career as the district superintendent. He retired in 1988.

 He was a WWII veteran, serving as a sergeant in the Army from 1943 to 1946 as a chief radar operator, supervising a crew of eight. He served overseas in New Guinea and the Philippines for 18 months.

Samuel was also a member of the American Legion in Elba. He sat on the board for ARC in Genesee County and was a volunteer fireman in Elba. He did furniture repair, grew roses, played golf, and was a huge avid Yankees fan. He also was an active member of his church Our Lady of Fatima in Elba serving as an lector, president of parish council, elder of the church, on catholic charities and he received the St. Joseph's Award from the diocese.

He was the loving husband of Mary T. (Garvey) Giansante; loving father of Mark P. (Joan) Giansante, Matthew (Katherine) Giansante, late Judith Ann and Mary Ann Giansante; cherished grandfather of Katherine M.  Sarah A., Emily S., and Margaret A. Giansante; son of the late Peter and Mary (Simone) Giansante; predeceased by several brothers and sisters.

A Mass of Christian burial will be 10 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 20 at Our Lady of Peace RC Church, 10950 Main Street, Clarence, NY; please assemble at the church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Thomas Doyle. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Calling hours will be Sunday, Aug. 19 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Shepard Bros. Funeral Home, LLC, 10690 Main street, Clarence, NY. Burial will Maplelawn Cemetery in Elba.
