Obituary of Marion I Lenz

Marion Irene (nee Schutt) Lenz, Age: 88; died Saturday, November 12, 2016 at Brothers of Mercy Nursing & Rehabilitation Center of Clarence, NY. Marion was born to the late Walter and the late Marjorie (Schurr) Schutt and was raised in Clarence. She attended Parker Elementary and High School; which she graduated from in 1945. She earned her Registered Nursing degree from Millard Fillmore Hospital School of Nursing in 1948 and her Bachelor of Science in Public Health Nursing from UB in 1953. Marion went on to get a certification in Health Teaching Education and graduate studies in smoking, drugs, and alcohol from Buffalo State College in 1972 and then in 1974 received her certification from Erie Community College in Medical Emergency Technician. She was American Red Cross certified to teach First Aid and CPR from 1963-1982. Marion worked as a Private Duty Nurse from 1948-1950. From 1948-50 was Head Nurse at Genesee Memorial Hospital in Batavia, NY and also was the Night Duty Nurse in the Nursery. She was employed from 1949-1954 as Dr. Daniel Fisher’s office nurse and during the same time was the school nurse and teacher for the Clarence Central Schools for grades K-12. Subsequently during the school years of 1966, 1969,1970,1971,1972 was an Amherst Summer School Teacher. In 1966, 1972, 1976, worked for the Board of Education Health Curriculum Summer School Work Shop Teacher. 1963-1980 saw Marion working in the Amherst Central School System as the School Nurse Teacher (K-12) and a Health Teacher for grades 7 & 8. During the years of 1974-1977 was a staff nurse in the methadone clinic at Sister’s Hospital. Then from 1977 until its closing she helped her husband manage, run and worked as a hostess at the Coachman’s Inn in Clarence. . She married her late husband Richard F. Lenz in 1953. They raised three children in Clarence; a son Craig R. Lenz, and two daughters Jean M. (Sam) Yanik and Carol M. Yetto. A Daughter-in-law Sherrie (Lawrence) Krzeminski. She is also survived by three granddaughters Meredith, Allyson Lenz and Shelby Yanik. A sister Janice Braman and a brother Walter J. Schutt; nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Sunday November 27th at 2pm from Crossroads Lutheran Church, 4640 Main Street, Amherst, NY 14226 with Adam Miller-Stubbendick officiating. .
